The Rabblecast
Rabblecast 474 - Moana Pozzi, Sharon Jones, Thanksgiving, and More!

Disney recently released their lasted 3D computer animated feature, Moana. The film tells the story of Moana(voiced by Auli'i Cravalho), the strong-willed daughter of the chief of a Polynesian tribe, who is chosen by the ocean itself to reunite a mystical relic to a goddess. She sets sail in search of Maui(voiced by Dwayne Johnson), a legendary demigod and hopes to save her people. Sounds like a fun movie, right?

It has come to the attention of Disney that the name Moana is very well known in Italy and it's not because of their latest release. Turns out Moana is the name of very popular and well known adult film actress, Moana Pozzi. During the 80's and into the 90's Moana Pozzi had a very successful career. Besides adult film she also was known to be a regular actress, television personality, model, politician and writer.

Sharon Jones(aged 60), was an American soul and funk singer. She was the lead singer of Sharon Jones & The Dap-Kings, a soul and funk band based in Brooklyn, New York. Fans of Marvel's Luke Cage were treated to one of her performances in the closing scene of season 1 as Sharon Jones performed 100 Days, 100 Nights.

And then somehow. Between all of the bad jokes and silly stories we get another "Horrible Event in History"! Doug tells the story of the Port Arthur Massacre and the ramifications it had on Australia and its gun laws.

Rabblecast 473 - Robert Vaughn, Leonard Cohen, and More!

This week, along with our usual high jinks, we talk about the loss of two incredibly talented individuals.

Robert Vaughn(aged 83), was an American actor noted for his stage, film and television work. One of his best-known TV roles include suave spy Napoleon Solo in the 1960s series The Man from U.N.C.L.E. On this show in particular we like to reference his role as Ross Webster in Superman III(1983). It was in this entry into the Superman series where the characters played by Robert Vaughn and Richard Pryor attempted to synthesis kryptonite in an effort to defeat Superman, played by Christopher Reeve.

We also talk about Canadian singer, songwriter, poet, novelist, and painter, Leonard Cohen(aged 82). Cohen's work mostly explored religion, politics, isolation, sexuality, and personal relationships. His song, Hallelujah, has the distinction of having been been performed by almost 200 artists in various languages. Chances are you've probably heard a Leonard Cohen song at some point in your life, you just didn't realize it at the time.

And finally, we wrap up this week's show with a video game review? Doug got his hands on a copy of Battlefield 1(EA Games) from his local redbox. Find out his thoughts on this and his love of absurd video game glitches. And let's not forget about Desert Bus or specifically Penn and Teller's Smoke and Mirrors.

Rabblecast 472 - Making of The Night Runner, Election Rigging and More!

It's been said on the show before, Jimmy is one talented individual. Over the weekend we got together to shoot a music video for a contest that Jimmy had entered. Korg Instruments ran a Halloween themed contest. After seeing some of the entries already posted online, Jimmy couldn't help himself and decided to throw his hat into the ring.

Check out the video for: The Night Runner

A quick disclaimer for the next part of the episode: The results of the recent election had not yet come in when we were recording. As such, we talk about election rigging in general terms. We are not accusing either party of cheating, rigging, or manipulating data. That's a discussion for another time and possibly another show.

And last but certainly not least, Doug brings us another "Horrible Event in History"! The subject of this entry, H. H. Holmes, one of the first documented serial killers in the modern sense of the term.

Rabblecast 471 - Kevin Curran, Michael Massee, and TNA Wrestling History

Many times when we report on the passing of an individual they are known for being in front of the camera, so to speak. Kevin Curran(aged 59) was a little bit different. Mr. Curran was an American television comedy writer. He wrote for Late Night with David Letterman, Married... with Children, and The Simpsons. We talk about some of his contributions to the world of comedy writing and one of his cameos.

The next name is one that would come up in conversations from time time. Michael Massee(aged 64), was an American actor. Massee is perhaps best known for his roles as Funboy in the 1994 film The Crow and The Gentleman in the 2012 film The Amazing Spider-Man. We also touch upon the unfortunate accident that happened on the set of The Crow that claimed the life of that movie's star.

And then, we jump back into the world of Professional Wrestling to take a look at the history of TNA Wrestling! What was once a potential number two to the juggernaut that is, WWE. How have they manged to stay in the game? Who has been at the center of it all? What about the rumors of WWE wanting to buyout TNA?

Happy Halloween to everyone out there!

On this episode we talk about the recent deaths of Jack Chick(aged 92), an American cartoonist and publisher, best known for his evangelical fundamentalist Christian "Chick tracts". Pete Burns(aged 57), an English singer-songwriter and television personality. He founded the pop band Dead or Alive in 1980, in which he was vocalist and songwriter, and which rose to mainstream success with their 1985 single "You Spin Me Round (Like a Record)". And... Steve Dillon(aged 54), a British comic book artist, from Luton, Bedfordshire, best known for his work with writer Garth Ennis on Hellblazer, Preacher and The Punisher.

And finally, what's Halloween without a "Horrible Event in History"? Doug brings us another tale in the form of the, Texarkana Moonlight Murders.
