The Rabblecast (Comedy)

Rain! Recently we got a lot of it. In fact, two major storms ran past our area. While we didn't get hit directly, we did get hit with some flooding. Thankfully we didn't get hit that bad, but some of our friends dealt with a nightmare before a special occasion.

The main topic of discussion on this episode is the recent casting news about Superman and Batman! DC/Warner Bros. seem to be reconsidering changing out actors as they move forward with the DC Extended Universe(DCEU). What does this mean for Henry Cavill, who recently posted a video in response to the news. What about Ben Affleck, who recently entered rehab due to a drinking problem?

And of course, since we're talking about comic book characters and movies, we also include some discussions about Marvel characters and the Marvel Cinematic Universe. We talk about some fan theories regarding Infinity War and the follow up Avengers film.

Gary Friedrich(aged 75), was an American comic book writer best known for his Silver Age stories for Marvel Comics' Sgt. Fury and his Howling Commandos, and, in the following era, for the series The Monster of Frankenstein and for co-creating the supernatural motorcyclist the Ghost Rider and the supernatural hero the Son of Satan.

Burt Reynolds(aged 86), was an American actor, director and producer. He first rose to prominence starring in television series such as Gunsmoke, Hawk, and Dan August.

His breakout film role was as Lewis Medlock in Deliverance. Reynolds played the leading role in a number of subsequent box office hits, such as The Longest Yard, Smokey and the Bandit, Semi-Tough, Hooper, Smokey and the Bandit II, The Cannonball Run and The Best Little Whorehouse in Texas.

We also get into some movie nostalgia with some of our favorite films. The Faculty, The Lord of the Rings, Seven, and more!

What about when you're relaxing at home and you hear a knock at the door? You open the door before seeing who it is and you're ambushed by someone trying to give you a pamphlet about their religion. Do you talk to them? Do you close the door?

We also talk about the ALL IN Pay Per View and go over the highlights of the show. All of this and so much more!

In this day in age, it's sad to say that, shootings have become quite frequent in the USA. Shopping malls, schools, concerts, churches, etc. At a recent Electronics Arts(EA) Sports sponsored Madden tournament in Jacksonville, Florida one of the tournament participants opened fire killing two and injuring another ten before committing suicide. News outlets were quick to turn the shooting in a political topic as gun laws were once again put under the microscope.

EA Sports released a statement saying their "most heartfelt sympathies" went out to the families of the victims and those who were injured and that their focus was on those affected and aiding law enforcement. The publisher would later cancel the three remaining Madden Classic qualifier tournaments in order to reevaluate safety protocols for future live events.

Our conversation also includes talk about MMA and Pro Wrestling(WWE to be more specific). PED use, painkillers vs marijuana use, and some wrestling stories.

James Henry Neidhart(aged 63), was an American professional wrestler best known for his appearances in the 1980s and 1990s in the World Wrestling Federation as Jim "The Anvil" Neidhart, where he was a two-time WWF Tag Team Champion with Bret Hart in The Hart Foundation. He also won titles in Stampede Wrestling, Championship Wrestling from Florida, Mid-South, Memphis and the Mid-Eastern Wrestling Federation. He is part of the Hart wrestling family through marriage, teaming with various members throughout his career.

Neidhart's passing comes shortly after the passing of three other Professional Wrestlers. It's easy to forget and dismiss the amount of sacrifice that these performers endure to be part of the Wrestling world. Extended periods of time away from family, nagging injuries that often times go undiagnosed, and the relentless uphill battle to make an impact.

We continue talking about other Wrestling news and stories. We even talk about WWE's Summer Slam 2018. It's not a full blown rundown, but it does bring us to a place we know and love, talking about the world of Professional Wrestling.

A couple of weeks back, major companies in the realm of social media decided to remove Alex Jones' show InfoWars from their respective platforms. If you're not familiar with his work, Alex Jones is the host of InfoWars and is often called a conspiracy theorist due to the various topics he likes to cover on his show and website.

For years Jones has been able to reach millions of viewers and subscribers through social media. But it wasn't until August 6, 2018, Facebook, Apple, YouTube and Spotify removed all content by Alex Jones and Infowars from their platforms for violating their policies. Fans of Alex Jones were upset, to say the least. A debate over Freedom of Speech became hotly contested on various news outlets, articles, and social media.

We do our best to add our thoughts to this conversation.

On this episode of The Rabblecast we say goodbye to a few of Professional Wrestling's talented individuals that have entertained us through the years.

Brian Christopher Lawler(aged 46), was an American professional wrestler. He was the son of professional wrestler Jerry Lawler and brother of wrestling referee Kevin Christian. He was best known for his career in the World Wrestling Federation (now known as WWE), where he performed as Brian Christopher and Grand Master Sexay. Lawler was a one-time WWF Tag Team Champion as part of Too Cool with Scotty 2 Hotty, and won 44 titles within the United States Wrestling Association.

Frederick Seawright(aged 57), was an American professional wrestler, better known by his ring name Brickhouse Brown. He was a top heel in Southern promotions in the 1980s and 1990s. With his recent passing a few funny and heart warming stories have come out about Brickhouse Brown. One of those stories involved a grateful Mick Foley being invited in out of the cold after Brickhouse Brown found out Foley didn't have a room on one of their trips.

Josip Hrvoje Peruzović(aged 70)better known by his ring name of Nikolai Volkoff, was a Yugoslav-born American professional wrestler who was best known for his performances in the World Wrestling Federation (WWF). In the 1980s, he was known for teaming with The Iron Sheik, with whom he won the WWF Tag Team Championship at the inaugural WrestleMania event, and later with Boris Zhukov as The Bolsheviks.

We also have updates on Chris Hardwick's return to AMC and the ongoing story with James Gunn and the cast of Guardians of the Galaxy.

San Diego Comic Con is a time for celebrating all things Pop Culture. Comics, movies, TV shows, toys, and the list goes on and on. But this year's Comic Con was mired with a bunch of different news that put a dark cloud over the usual festivities.

Jon Schnepp(aged 51), was an American producer, director, voice actor, editor, writer, cartoonist, animator, and cinematographer. Schnepp was known for the documentary film, The Death of "Superman Lives": What Happened?, for which he directed and wrote. He also directed episodes of Metalocalypse, The Venture Bros. and a segment of The ABC's of Death. To say that he was a busy individual would be putting it lightly. Thank you for all of your hard work Mr. Schnepp.

One of the many big headlines out of SDCC this year was the firing of James Gunn from the upcoming, Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 for Disney/Marvel. The news broke after a bunch of old tweets resurfaced and Disney was pressured to take action. James Gunn was writing and was set to direct Vol.3 of GotG which was to begin production this coming Fall. (In the time since we have recorded this episode there have been further developments in the story that we will cover in an upcoming episode.) The use of social media to take down people in "Hollywood" has been a growing trend as of late. This case in particular is concerning as it has some political connections to it.

We cover all of this and so much more on this episode!

Hey, there's a new Kevin Smith project out making the rounds. So you know Hernandez is excited. But what about Doug? The pilot for Hollyweed is currently up on Rivit TV for free! Watch it and if you like what you see, pledge a few bucks per episode and become a Producer of the show with many others.

In more movie news we talk about Robocop Returns! Now, Robobcop has already been rebooted before back in 2014 with Joel Kinnaman in the leading role. But this reboot/relaunch(it's hard to keep track of the terms) has Neill Blomkamp(known for: District 9, Elysium, Chappie) in the Director's chair and the original writers(Edward Neumeier and Michael Miner) from the 1987 Film. Can Blomkamp and returning writers hit the mark?

And then the conversation turns to the best Horror movies from 1981 and 1987. Hellraiser, The Lost Boys, An American Werewolf in London, Scanners, and many more.

Matthew Cappotelli(aged 38), was an American professional wrestler. After co-winning Tough Enough III with John Hennigan(aka John Morrison), he worked in Ohio Valley Wrestling (OVW), the primary developmental territory for WWE. He ended his career due to a malignant brain tumor.

Steve Ditko(aged 90), was an American comics artist and writer best known as the artist and co-creator, with Stan Lee, of the Marvel Comics superheroes Spider-Man and Doctor Strange. Ditko largely declined to give interviews, saying he preferred to communicate through his work.

We also continue to follow the story of the 21st Century Fox buyout by Disney. Comcast had previously challenged Disney's bid to acquire 21st Century Fox, but Disney out bid Comcast. Everything seemed like smooth sailing until a lawsuit was filed by a Fox shareholder, causing yet another road block in the acquisition of 21st Century Fox.

Not long ago, when you wanted to find the latest movie releases for your home entertainment you had to leave the comfort of your home, get in your car, and take a trip to your local video store. Now we have streaming services and digital downloads that allow you to side step all of that. But what the adventure of going to a rental store? The oddball places and their staff? When was the last time you watched a movie based on the cover art of the VHS/DVD?

Leon Allen White(aged 63, aka Big Van Vader),  was an American professional wrestler and professional football player. He performed for New Japan Pro-Wrestling (NJPW), World Championship Wrestling (WCW), the World Wrestling Federation (WWF), and All Japan Pro Wrestling (AJPW) during the 1990s and 2000s. White, who gained legendary status in Japan, is widely regarded as one of the greatest super heavy-weight wrestlers ever.

Also on this episode, we have an update regarding the on-going story of the Fox and Disney deal that many are hoping will soon be resolved. After a $65 billion all cash bid from Comcast, Disney has responded with a larger bid. Originally, Disney put a bid out for $52.4 billion in stocks, but they have now upped their bid to $71.3 billion in cash and stocks. Is this it? We'll have to wait and see.

It's no secret that we love movies. Good movies, bad movies, weird movies, take your pick. Doug recently watched, Oasis of the Zombies and soon after regretted watch said movie. Hernandez watched, Yoga Hosers and was taken back to the 80's when monster movies were a thing(anyone remember the 1987 movie, Munchies?)

We also talk about the recent essay written by Chloe Dykstra(actress, cosplayer, and model) that was posted on Medium. The essay details a relationship in which she was the victim of emotional and sexual abuse. No one was named in the essay but it didn't take much to realize that the other person in the relationship was, Chris Hardwick(stand-up comedian, actor, television host, writer, producer, and podcaster). We talk about the essay and the reactions that followed soon after social media and news outlets picked up on the story.

Anthony Bourdain(aged 61) was an American celebrity chef, author, travel documentarian, and television personality who starred in programs focusing on the exploration of international culture, cuisine, and the human condition. He was considered one of the most influential chefs in the world. His personality, his no nonsense style, and his storytelling will be sorely missed in and out of the culinary world.

In other news, someone has finally stopped Jason Vorhees, at least temporarily. The rights(currently held by co-creator, Sean Cunningham) to the Friday the 13th franchise are currently being disputed. Victor Miller, the original writer of the script to the first film in the series has exercised what he believes to be his rightful claim(or portion thereof).

While the entertainment lawyers duke it out, anything pertaining to Friday the 13th has been put on an indefinite hold. Fans of Friday the 13th The Game are being directly affected by this dispute. As a result, no future DLC(Down Loadable Content) can be created or released. The game is still playable and available to gaming fans. But until a decision can be rendered the future of the game is currently in limbo.

Also on this episode, we get another "Horrible Event In History"! Doug takes us to Lake Nyos and tells the story of the limnic eruption that led to a natural disaster for the population surrounding the area.

Avicii(aged 28 real name Tim Bergling), was a Swedish musician, DJ, remixer and record producer. He rose to prominence in 2011 with his breakthrough single "Levels". His debut studio album, True (2013), featured electronic music blended with elements of several music genres. Verne Troyer(aged 49), was an American actor, stunt performer, and comedian best known for playing Mini-Me in the Austin Powers film series. He was notable for having been only 2 ft 8 in (81 cm) tall, the result of cartilage–hair hypoplasia; this made him one of the shortest men in the world.

Bruno Sammartino(aged 82), was an Italian-born American professional wrestler, best known for his work with the World Wide Wrestling Federation (WWWF). There, he held the WWWF World Heavyweight Championship for more than 11 years across two reigns, the first of which is the longest single reign in the promotion's history at 2,803 days.

Ladies and gentlemen, thank you for your patience. Before we can move on with our new shows in 2018, we have one last episode from 2017 to close out the previous year.

The latest entry into the Star Wars saga hit theaters in mid December 2017 and left fans divided. Some fans loved The Last Jedi and all that it had to offer. A new direction for the Star Wars films, the return of Luke Skywalker, and an unpredictable story line.

Other fans were left unsatisfied. Fan favorites were killed off, questions from the previous movie were left unanswered, and we got a very passive Luke Skywalker. Some fans have even taken to signing petitions to have The Last Jedi stricken from the movie canon.

Regardless of how the film was perceived, the Star Wars movie train continues to chug along. Almost a month after it release it has pulled in over $1.2 billion worldwide.

As we talk about the film, we point out things that we liked, things that caught us off guard, and what we hope we will see in future installments.

(Original recording date: 12/5/2017)

At the time that we recorded this episode, there were talks of Disney and Fox Studios negotiating a buyout. Which led to a bunch of speculation as to what they could mean for the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Marvel would regain the film rights to the X-Men and Fantastic Four properties as well as a bunch of other intellectual properties owned by Fox(Simpsons, Futurama, X-Files, etc.)

The debate that popped up in a lot of different places was the fate of R rated movies(Logan and Deadpool), and if Disney would allow them to continue under their banner. We get into this and much more as we discuss the topic on this episode.

We also have a new entry into the "Horrible Events in History" file as Doug tells about the Halifax Explosion from 1917.

We delve into the series itself, some of the history of the comic book character, and the previous films. Welcome back, Frank.

On this episode we also touch upon the tragic events in Las Vegas. As mentioned in our intro, this episode was recorded just a couple of days after the event occurred. As such, we did not have all of the details as to what transpired. We try our best to talk about it without going into conspiracy theories, politicizing things, or standing on a soapbox. It's a horrible thing that happened. Our hearts go out to those affected by it and hopefully some answered are found in all of the chaos.

Celebrity death hoaxes on the other hand tend to confuse, upset, and irritate. Families are affected, fans are outraged, and news outlets sometimes fail to check their sources. We take a closer look at some infamous death hoaxes and the stories behind them.

The conversation then drifts over to the realm of Politics. It has been stated before, this show really doesn't cover politics in general. But it has been creeping into the conversation more and more. "Politics has become the new spectator sport." And all of the world is watching. The question is, where do we go next?

The Rabblecast has hit 500 episodes! Thank you for sharing this milestone with us. On this episode we talk about some of the recent artists that have left us and left a mark on pop culture in their own way.

Martin Landau(aged 89), was an American actor of stage, television and film, acting coach, executive producer, voice artist, editorial cartoonist and comic strip producer. His career began in the 1950s, with early film appearances including a supporting role in Alfred Hitchcock's North by Northwest (1959). He played regular roles in the television series Mission: Impossible (for which he received several Emmy Award nominations and a Golden Globe Award).

Chester Bennington(aged 41), was an American singer and songwriter best known as the frontman for the rock band Linkin Park. He was also the lead singer for Dead by Sunrise and fronted Stone Temple Pilots from 2013 to 2015.

John Bernecker (aged 33), was a stuntman known for his work on Black Panther (2018), Logan (2017) and Fantastic Four (2015). His recent work included doing stunt work for The Walking Dead on AMC.

Our last subject is a highly recognized individual in the world of films. George Romero(aged 77), was an American-Canadian filmmaker, writer and editor, best known for his series of gruesome and satirical horror films about an imagined zombie apocalypse, beginning with Night of the Living Dead (1968), which is often considered a progenitor of the fictional zombie of modern culture. Romero is often noted as an influential pioneer of the horror film genre, and has been called an "icon" and the "Father of the Zombie Film".

When it comes to the world of Star Wars do fans want something tried and true or something new? That is the topic of discussion as we cover the firing of film Directors, Phil Lord and Chris Miller(previous films include: The Lego Movie, Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs, 21 Jump Street, and it's sequel). And the hiring of veteran Director, Ron Howard. How will this affect the production schedule of the film? Are the Producers and Disney being a little over protective?

It's no secret that we're big Pro Wrestling fans. When we heard that Netflix had given the green light to a new take on GLOW: Gorgeous Ladies of Wrestling based on the original TV series, we were cautiously optimistic. The series stars Alison Brie, Betty Gilpin, and Marc Maron(playing Sam Sylvia, loosely based on Matt Cimber, the original Director of GLOW). A little over a year and half ago a Kickstarter campaign from Gun Media was launched for Friday the 13th The Video Game. What originally began as a game paying homage to the film franchise quickly became a full blown project with the name and license. Originally scheduled for an October 2016 launch, the game was finally released around Memorial Day weekend of 2017. From what we can see online and what we can read as far as game play reviews, the game does a good job of giving you the full Camp Crystal Lake experience.

However, glitches, server issues, and more have plagued the launch of this long awaited title. We here at The Rabblecast have yet to play an actual session. But that doesn't deter us. First and foremost, we want to wish our good friend Jimmy safe and happy travels as he departs on a new adventure in his life. Thank you for everything you've ever done for the show and its humble host. Until we meet again you derailing son of a gun.

We say goodbye to two very strong character actors in the world of acting. Michael Parks(aged 77) was an American singer and actor. He appeared in many films and made frequent television appearances but was probably best known for his work in his later years with filmmakers such as Quentin Tarantino, Robert Rodriguez, and Kevin Smith. His portrayal of Texas Ranger Earl McGraw in From Dusk Till Dawn was especially memorable.

Powers Boothe(aged 68) was an American television and film actor. Some of his most notable roles include his Emmy-winning portrayal of Jim Jones in Guyana Tragedy: The Story of Jim Jones, and his turns as TV detective Philip Marlowe in the 1980s, Cy Tolliver on Deadwood, "Curly Bill" Brocious in Tombstone, Vice-President and subsequently President Noah Daniels on 24, and Lamar Wyatt in Nashville.

And finally we also talk about the passing of Stanley Weston(aged 84) was an American inventor and licensing agent who created the G.I. Joe toy line in 1963, as well as the very concept of the action figure. Weston later sold the rights to his invention, which he called "outfitted action figures", to Hasbro for just $100,000 dollars. During the 1980s, Weston oversaw the creation of the ThunderCats animated series (1985–1989), which spawned the successful ThunderCats toyline.

First and foremost, we address the brevity with which we talked about the passing of Erin Moran. During the course of the show we talk about many different actors, artists, athletes, etc. Erin Moran(aged 56) was an American actress, best known for playing Joanie Cunningham on the television sitcom Happy Days and its spin-off Joanie Loves Chachi. Erin Moran left her mark in Pop Culture along with the rest of the cast from Happy Days.

If you're a fan of films, you might know the name of, John Demme. Demme was an American film director, producer, and screenwriter. He rose to prominence in the 1980s with his comedy films Melvin and Howard (1980), Swing Shift (1984), Something Wild (1986), and Married to the Mob (1988). He became best known for directing The Silence of the Lambs (1991), for which he won the Academy Award for Best Director.

And due to our talk about Mr. Demme we get into our love of certain films and some of the techniques used in making them. Storytelling is an art form. Be it movies, books, comics, etc. Being able to do it well and capture an audience can often transcend various types of media.

Any fan of comedy should recognize the name, Don Rickles(aged 90). Rickles was an American stand-up comedian, actor and author. Although he became well known as an insult comic, his pudgy, balding appearance and pugnacious style led to few leading roles in film or television; his prominent film roles included Run Silent, Run Deep (1958) and Kelly's Heroes (1970).

The Wrestling world lost another notable name in Larry Sharpe(aged 66). Sharpe was an American professional wrestler, manager and trainer better known under his ring name, "Pretty Boy" Larry Sharpe. Sharpe is perhaps most well known for creating the Monster Factory professional wrestling school. He grew up in Paulsboro, New Jersey, and was the original trainer of Kevin Von Erich, and many other well-known wrestlers.

We talk about the recent passing of some notable artists. Chuck Berry(aged 90), was an American guitarist, singer and songwriter and one of the pioneers of rock and roll music. Berry was among the first musicians to be inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame on its opening in 1986; he was cited for having "laid the groundwork for not only a rock and roll sound but a rock and roll stance.

Bernie Wrightson(aged 68), was an American artist, known for co-creating the Swamp Thing, his adaptation of the novel Frankenstein illustration work, and for his other horror comics and illustrations, which feature his trademark intricate pen and brush work.

We also delve deep into the recent celebrity hacks, more specifically, the leaked photos/videos of WWE Diva Paige. Should WWE take action against Paige for something that was done a few years ago? The Professional Wrestling world is mourning the passing of four former stars. Ivan Koloff(aged 74), Chavo Guerrero Sr.(aged 68), Nicole Bass(aged 52), and George "The Animal" Steele(aged 79). Each of them made contributions to wrestling in their own right.

The guys take a quick stroll down memory lane as they talk about some of their favorite wrestling moments in history. Some absurd, others, not so much.

Doug brings us his rundown of The Battle of Messines for the "Horrible Events in History" file.

Rabblecast 482- More Batman Director News, WWE Elimination Chamber 2017

We follow up on our discussion about Warner Bros./DC searching for a new Director for The Batman. So far, it seems as though Matt Reeves(Cloverfield) might be in the running to take over the film. Although, if we learned anything about the DC Extended Universe, things can change at anytime.

WWE is currently on the road to Wrestlemania. But before we get there, we're going to make a few stops along the way. One of them being, Smackdown's PPV, The Elimination Chamber! Find out who walked away as champion and what this means for Wresltemania.

Also on this episode, we get into a discussion about the legal drinking age. Should it be changed? Should it be lower or higher? The guys weigh on this unexpected topic.

Rabblecast 481 - No Director For The Batman, The R101 Disaster

In our last episode we said goodbye to the studio. But the show must go on. On this episode we try out a new recording space literally a block down the road. We did hit a few snags here and there, but that is to be expected when we have a mobile setup.

Let's get down to business. On this episode, we talk about the lack of a director for the upcoming Batman film from Warner Bros. Ben Afleck was touted as a great choice not only as Batman but as the director of the film due to his recent string of hits(Gone Baby Gone, The Town, Argo). Already, speculation has run wild as to who might fill the director's chair. Who do you think will make a good director for The Batman.

We also have another entry into the "Horrible Events in History" file in the form of the R101 Disaster.

Rabblecast 480 - Moving Day, We Say Goodbye To Another Studio

For a show that has run over ten years, we have seen changes from time to time. Friends coming and going. Format changes. Recording spaces becoming unavailable. Thankfully, in this case, we're only saying goodbye to another studio space.

So we gathered in the near empty studio and did our usual thing. Among the various topics talked about: The passing of celebrities, Mary Tyler Moore(aged 80) and Sir John Hurt(aged 77). As well as the passing of Masaya Nakamura(aged 91), considered by many to be "the father of Pac-man".

We also talk about the 2017 Royal Rumble PPV from WWE and some of the various results from that night.

Rabblecast 479 - This Is Why We Don't Talk Politics

Even in the early days of the show, when we covered wrestling, we always kept it lighthearted. This is a comedy podcast after all. But when you start talking politics, things can get a little interesting. How do you get your news? Do you rely on social media solely for your world news? Do you double check the information before repeating it verbatim?

On this show, we find out what happens when the guys dip their toes into a political conversation. But that's not all. Also on this episode: Bathroom adventures(you've been warned), fantasy casting a movie full of method actors, a look at the upcoming Royal Rumble 2017 PPV, and a couple of celebrity deaths.

Rabblecast 478 - Getting Up To Speed in 2017

The Rabblecast is back with our very first episode for 2017! Did you enjoy your holiday season? Did you make any new year's resolutions?

We get back into the swing of things by catching up on a few news bits that lingered as 2016 closed out. Then we take a look at the current events going on in 2017 so far. Are we doing better or worse than last year? It might be a little too early to tell.

But, rest assured, we do return to our normal flow of the show. With that, Doug brings us the first addition to the "Horrible Events In History" file for the new year. On this episode we talk about The Broomway, a public right of way over the foreshore at Maplin Sands off the coast of Essex, England.

Rabblecast 477 - Rogue One: A Star Wars Story & A Look Back At 2016

Welcome to the final episode of The Rabblecast for 2016!

SPOILER ALERT!! On this episode, we talk about Rogue One: A Star Wars Story. While we might not dissect it as much as other shows or outlets, we do talk about it in great depth while Doug sits on the sidelines and watches two geeks gush over it. Rogue One is great addition to the Star Wars saga as we eagerly await the arrival of episode VIII.

Also on this episode, we take a look back at all of the celebrities that have left us in 2016. Doug reads off a list of names, the majority of which we talked about on-air. Others, like the recent passing of British singer, George Michael(aged 53) happened well after we finished recording. 2016 was a really unforgiving year for some and rewarding for others.

Rabblecast 476 - Imitate Until You Can Innovate!

Guess who finally watched Marvel's Doctor Strange? After a recent trip to the theater, Jimmy had a lot to say about the latest installment in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Mainly, how the director and Marvel Studios were able to make a movie that borrowed heavily from other films that came before it. And we attempt to answer the question, are mutants and Inhumans the same thing?

Comic books, movies, wrestling, robots, alcohol, and more fill out this episode. And let's not forget one of our favorite parts of the show. "Horrible Events in History" is back as Doug tells the story of the Chicago Port Disaster.

Rabblecast 475 - Florence Henderson, Ron Glass, Fidel Castro, and More!

This week we report on and talk about a few names that you may or may not know.

Florence Henderson(aged 82) was an American actress and singer with a career spanning six decades. She is best remembered for her starring role as matriarch Carol Brady on the ABC sitcom The Brady Bunch from 1969 to 1974. Some of us watched the Brady Bunch after the heyday of the show. But there is no denying the staying power that the show had.

Ron Glass(aged 71) may not be as recognizable of an actor to some viewers, but he also has a large body of work. Mr. Glass was an American actor. He was known for his roles as literary Det. Ron Harris in the television sitcom Barney Miller(1975–1982), and as the spiritual Shepherd Derrial Book in the 2002 science fiction series Firefly and its sequel film Serenity. If you're a Brown Coat, you're mourning the loss of this man more than most.

We also talk about the passing of the former President of Cuba. Fidel Castro(aged 90) was a Cuban politician and revolutionary who governed the Republic of Cuba as Prime Minister from 1959 to 1976 and then as President from 1976 to 2008. Depending on your political views and interpretation of world history, Castro can be a polarizing figure. Some may have celebrated his passing, while others mourned him and remembered his accomplishments.

Rabblecast 474 - Moana Pozzi, Sharon Jones, Thanksgiving, and More!

Disney recently released their lasted 3D computer animated feature, Moana. The film tells the story of Moana(voiced by Auli'i Cravalho), the strong-willed daughter of the chief of a Polynesian tribe, who is chosen by the ocean itself to reunite a mystical relic to a goddess. She sets sail in search of Maui(voiced by Dwayne Johnson), a legendary demigod and hopes to save her people. Sounds like a fun movie, right?

It has come to the attention of Disney that the name Moana is very well known in Italy and it's not because of their latest release. Turns out Moana is the name of very popular and well known adult film actress, Moana Pozzi. During the 80's and into the 90's Moana Pozzi had a very successful career. Besides adult film she also was known to be a regular actress, television personality, model, politician and writer.

Sharon Jones(aged 60), was an American soul and funk singer. She was the lead singer of Sharon Jones & The Dap-Kings, a soul and funk band based in Brooklyn, New York. Fans of Marvel's Luke Cage were treated to one of her performances in the closing scene of season 1 as Sharon Jones performed 100 Days, 100 Nights.

And then somehow. Between all of the bad jokes and silly stories we get another "Horrible Event in History"! Doug tells the story of the Port Arthur Massacre and the ramifications it had on Australia and its gun laws.

Rabblecast 473 - Robert Vaughn, Leonard Cohen, and More!

This week, along with our usual high jinks, we talk about the loss of two incredibly talented individuals.

Robert Vaughn(aged 83), was an American actor noted for his stage, film and television work. One of his best-known TV roles include suave spy Napoleon Solo in the 1960s series The Man from U.N.C.L.E. On this show in particular we like to reference his role as Ross Webster in Superman III(1983). It was in this entry into the Superman series where the characters played by Robert Vaughn and Richard Pryor attempted to synthesis kryptonite in an effort to defeat Superman, played by Christopher Reeve.

We also talk about Canadian singer, songwriter, poet, novelist, and painter, Leonard Cohen(aged 82). Cohen's work mostly explored religion, politics, isolation, sexuality, and personal relationships. His song, Hallelujah, has the distinction of having been been performed by almost 200 artists in various languages. Chances are you've probably heard a Leonard Cohen song at some point in your life, you just didn't realize it at the time.

And finally, we wrap up this week's show with a video game review? Doug got his hands on a copy of Battlefield 1(EA Games) from his local redbox. Find out his thoughts on this and his love of absurd video game glitches. And let's not forget about Desert Bus or specifically Penn and Teller's Smoke and Mirrors.

Rabblecast 472 - Making of The Night Runner, Election Rigging and More!

It's been said on the show before, Jimmy is one talented individual. Over the weekend we got together to shoot a music video for a contest that Jimmy had entered. Korg Instruments ran a Halloween themed contest. After seeing some of the entries already posted online, Jimmy couldn't help himself and decided to throw his hat into the ring.

Check out the video for: The Night Runner

A quick disclaimer for the next part of the episode: The results of the recent election had not yet come in when we were recording. As such, we talk about election rigging in general terms. We are not accusing either party of cheating, rigging, or manipulating data. That's a discussion for another time and possibly another show.

And last but certainly not least, Doug brings us another "Horrible Event in History"! The subject of this entry, H. H. Holmes, one of the first documented serial killers in the modern sense of the term.

Rabblecast 471 - Kevin Curran, Michael Massee, and TNA Wrestling History

Many times when we report on the passing of an individual they are known for being in front of the camera, so to speak. Kevin Curran(aged 59) was a little bit different. Mr. Curran was an American television comedy writer. He wrote for Late Night with David Letterman, Married... with Children, and The Simpsons. We talk about some of his contributions to the world of comedy writing and one of his cameos.

The next name is one that would come up in conversations from time time. Michael Massee(aged 64), was an American actor. Massee is perhaps best known for his roles as Funboy in the 1994 film The Crow and The Gentleman in the 2012 film The Amazing Spider-Man. We also touch upon the unfortunate accident that happened on the set of The Crow that claimed the life of that movie's star.

And then, we jump back into the world of Professional Wrestling to take a look at the history of TNA Wrestling! What was once a potential number two to the juggernaut that is, WWE. How have they manged to stay in the game? Who has been at the center of it all? What about the rumors of WWE wanting to buyout TNA?

On this episode we talk about the recent deaths of Jack Chick(aged 92), an American cartoonist and publisher, best known for his evangelical fundamentalist Christian "Chick tracts". Pete Burns(aged 57), an English singer-songwriter and television personality. He founded the pop band Dead or Alive in 1980, in which he was vocalist and songwriter, and which rose to mainstream success with their 1985 single "You Spin Me Round (Like a Record)". And... Steve Dillon(aged 54), a British comic book artist, from Luton, Bedfordshire, best known for his work with writer Garth Ennis on Hellblazer, Preacher and The Punisher.

And finally, what's Halloween without a "Horrible Event in History"? Doug brings us another tale in the form of the, Texarkana Moonlight Murders.

Rabblecast 469 - A Mixed Bag of TV, Movies, and Wrestling News

This week's show is a little hard to nail down. Mostly because we were all over the map with different topics and stories. And we wouldn't have it any other way.

One of this week's topics, the recent passing of some notable names. Thomas Mikal Ford(aged 52), was an American actor best known for his role as Tommy Strawn in the sitcom Martin, and for his recurring role as Mel Parker in the UPN sitcom The Parkers. The other name we report on is, Calvin Gotlieb, a Canadian professor and computer scientist who has been called the "Father of Computing" in Canada. He was a Professor in Computer Science at the University of Toronto.

Through in some wrestling news, comics questions, and what we're watching recently and that pretty much rounds out this week's show.

Within just a day of its release on the streaming service, Luke Cage already holds the distinction of "breaking the internet" as Netflix went down for a few hours due to the demand of viewers watching. Even with such a great reaction from the fans, the show still manages to draw some controversy.

As we talk about Luke Cage, Jimmy believes he broke the code as to why one of Marvel's other beloved characters has yet to be included in any of the TV shows or films. Will we see Squirrel Girl sooner than later? Is she the key to the end of Marvel's Phase 3?

Known for his roles in movies such as Young Frankenstein, Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory, and for his work with Mel Brooks. Not to mention his work with fellow Comedic actor, Richard Pryor.

Shifting gears a little bit, we also take a look at the recent passing and career of Mr. Fuji(Harry Fujiwara, aka Mr. Fujiwara. Aged 82). Easily one of the most recognizable managers in the world of professional wrestling and the WWF/WWE. Mr. Fuji was a ruthless character in and out of the ring. Whether he was partnering with, Professor Tanaka or managing numerous wrestlers to main event status and championship matches(Demolition, Powers of Pain, Yokozuna, etc.).

Rabblecast 462 - WWE Summerslam 2016, Epipen Cost Increase

Some of our shows have a singular theme and/or story. Other shows have a mixed bag of topics. This is the later.

Lots of news came out of WWE's latest PPV, Summerslam 2016. Numerous injuries are being report, during the show and on the following Monday Night RAW. A controversial ending to the Brock Lesnar vs Randy Orton match which left a returning Randy Orton a bloody mess in the middle of the ring. A backstage confrontation between Chris Jericho and Brock Lesnar. And let's not forget the unveiling and crowning of WWE's first Universal Champion!

From there, we switch gears and talk about the recent controversy surrounding a company by the name of, Mylan. Epipen's have seen a dramatic price hike and consumers are not reacting to this news very well. What caused the sudden price increase and what has Mylan done to improve the epipen product? Rabblecast 457 - "Cyborg" Santos' Injury, Brock Lesnar Fails Drug Test

*(Original recording date, 7/19/2016)

On this week's show, we take another look at the world of MMA. During the Bellator 158 MMA event in London, Evangelista "Cyborg" Santos suffered a sudden defeat against his opponent, Michael Page via a well placed knee strike. The ending of that bout gained lots of news coverage, mostly due to the way that Page celebrated the victory. But it wasn't until news broke of the severity of Santos' head injury did people react in a different way.

We also talk about the news of Brock Lesnar failing two drug tests, one test before UFC 200, the other one immediately after the UFC event. What Lesnar failed for has not been revealed. But Lesnar himself claims, "We will get to the bottom of this." It has yet to be announced if this will affect his return to the WWE for his upcoming match at Summer Slam 2016. For us, it brings up the discussion of Performance Enhancing Drugs(PEDs) and how they have impacted the world sports and competition.

Rabblecast 453 - Muhammad Ali, Kimbo Slice

The Fight World lost two big names in recent weeks. Kimbo Slice(Kevin Ferguson, aged 42) made his name in the underground fight scene. Dubbed, "The King of the Web Brawlers" by Rolling Stones magazine, Kimbo's fight videos went viral. Factor in an undefeated boxing career and Kimbo soon found himself fighting in the Octagon for company's such as Elite XC, UFC, and Bellator MMA. He was still under contract with Bellator at the time of his passing.

Then of course there is, "The Greatest of All Time", Muhammad Ali(born Cassius Clay, aged 74). Ali was an American Olympic and professional boxer and activist. He is widely regarded as one of the most significant and celebrated sports figures of the 20th century. From early in his career, Ali was known as an inspiring, controversial and polarizing figure both inside and outside the ring.

What started off as a simple conversation about the return of John Carpenter to the, Halloween franchise, quickly dovetailed into a retelling of Doug and Jimmy's adventure to The Mahoning Drive-In Theater in Lehighton, Pennsylvania. Where they(with Holly) had a triple feature of "Zombie" themed movies. Return of the Living Dead(1985), The Death Wheelers(1973), and The Children(1980).

And, let's not forget the latest installment of Horrible Events in History! Doug educates us about the Cleveland Torso Murderer.

Rabblecast 451 - Preacher, Moogfest, and Misfits!

Have you ever heard of Moogfest? Worry not, because our pal Jimmy gives us a rundown of his recent adventure to Durham, North Carolina as he attended a convention that's touted as the synthesis of music, art, and technology! Jimmy gets to gush about the acts he liked and lets us know what he brought home.

Keeping in the vein of the music world, it was recently announced that the Misfits will be reuniting for two festival shows this September. The classic line-up of Glenn Danzig, Jerry Only, and Wolfgang Von Frankenstein will take to the stage for the two Riot Fest shows! First it was Guns N' Roses, now the Misfits. 2016 is a year full of surprises.

Also on this episode, we talk about the premiere of Preacher(Vertigo/DC Comics) on AMC. Spoilers ahead if you haven't seen the pilot or read the comic book. Was it good? Can AMC make lightning strike twice with another comic book inspired show?

The Rabblecast turns 10 this week! And with that, we take a trip down memory lane. This isn't a "best of" or a re-posting of an old episode. Hernandez tells the origin story of the show and fills in a few gaps here and there. The curtain is pulled back as some secrets are revealed.

Also on this show, the passing of Darwyn Cooke(aged 53), an Eisner Award-winning Canadian comic book writer, artist, cartoonist and animator, known for his work on the comic books Catwoman, DC: The New Frontier, and The Spirit. We also cover the recent new of Kevin Smith being approached to adapt the cult film, The Adventures of Buckaroo Banzai Across the 8th Dimension!(1984) into a TV series.

We hope you've enjoyed the show up to this point and continue to join us every week!

Rabblecast 449 - Civil War(s?), Baked Goods, & Music

This week, the guys discuss the recent Marvel movie, Captain America: Civil War! (Spoilers ahead if you haven't seen the movie yet.) How does it stack up against Zack Snyder's, Batman v. Superman? All of the action, all of the drama, and all of the actual historical interjections that Doug and Jimmy can throw at the show to derail it.

We also find out what Jimmy's been experimenting with in the kitchen. Doug gives us some band names that probably won't show up on an iTunes search. There is a little something for everyone in this episode.
