The Rabblecast

Do you like comic books? Do you like Superhero's? Well this is the episode for you! We dive into the recently released Marvel series on Netflix, Defenders. The culmination of previous series Marvel/Netflix Daredevil, Jessica Jones, Luke Cage, and Iron Fist. All of the small screen heroes come together to take on a looming threat that has been growing in New York City.

We also go over some of the recent developments in the Marvel Cinematic Universe(MCU) and how the Marvel/Netflix series might line up with the MCU. Will we see the Defenders in the upcoming Avengers: Infinity Wars movie? Probably not. But we can dream, can't we?

And then we talk about the passing of a comedic legend. Jerry Lewis(aged 91) was an American comedian, actor, singer, producer, director, screenwriter, and humanitarian. He was known for his slapstick humor in film, television, stage and radio. Whether he was flying solo in his later years or teamed up with Dean Martin as part of the famous duo Martin and Lewis, Jerry Lewis left a definitive mark with his long lasting career and charity work.

Earlier this month, the Electronic Frontier Foundation won a victory against Personal Audio(a patent holding company). This is a big news for podcaster's everywhere. The case involves Personal Audio’s broad patent for a “System for Disseminating Media Content Representing Episodes in a Serialized Sequence,” which the company used to levy suits against a number of podcast providers, including Adam Carolla, HowStuffWorks, CBS, and NBC.

We also get into a discussion about breast feeding and how sensitive some people can get about the subject. Should a woman be allowed to breast feed in public? Why is there such a big push against it?

We delve into some 80's animated movie nostalgia as we talk about Hasbro's Transformers: The Movie and GI Joe: The movie. Which characters were suppose to die in each story? Who was saved due to a re-write?

And finally, Doug gives us a rundown of his latest concert going experience.

Throughout the life of this show we have reported on numerous celebrity deaths. Musicians, Actors, Artists, Athletes, etc. Each passing touching people differently. Celebrity death hoaxes on the other hand tend to confuse, upset, and irritate. Families are affected, fans are outraged, and news outlets sometimes fail to check their sources. We take a closer look at some infamous death hoaxes and the stories behind them.

The conversation then drifts over to the realm of Politics. It has been stated before, this show really doesn't cover politics in general. But it has been creeping into the conversation more and more. "Politics has become the new spectator sport." And all of the world is watching. The question is, where do we go next?

Doug breaks out his notes for another "Horrible Events in History". Have you ever heard of Nixon, New Jersey? Doug fills us in on this very interesting topic and just how close to home it is for us.

All of this and so much more!

The Rabblecast has hit 500 episodes! Thank you for sharing this milestone with us. On this episode we talk about some of the recent artists that have left us and left a mark on pop culture in their own way.

Martin Landau(aged 89), was an American actor of stage, television and film, acting coach, executive producer, voice artist, editorial cartoonist and comic strip producer. His career began in the 1950s, with early film appearances including a supporting role in Alfred Hitchcock's North by Northwest (1959). He played regular roles in the television series Mission: Impossible (for which he received several Emmy Award nominations and a Golden Globe Award).

Chester Bennington(aged 41), was an American singer and songwriter best known as the frontman for the rock band Linkin Park. He was also the lead singer for Dead by Sunrise and fronted Stone Temple Pilots from 2013 to 2015.

John Bernecker (aged 33), was a stuntman known for his work on Black Panther (2018), Logan (2017) and Fantastic Four (2015). His recent work included doing stunt work for The Walking Dead on AMC.

Our last subject is a highly recognized individual in the world of films. George Romero(aged 77), was an American-Canadian filmmaker, writer and editor, best known for his series of gruesome and satirical horror films about an imagined zombie apocalypse, beginning with Night of the Living Dead (1968), which is often considered a progenitor of the fictional zombie of modern culture. Romero is often noted as an influential pioneer of the horror film genre, and has been called an "icon" and the "Father of the Zombie Film".

If that's not enough to pack our 500th episode, then we don't know what will. Thank you again for the continued support. And as always...

When it comes to the world of Star Wars do fans want something tried and true or something new? That is the topic of discussion as we cover the firing of film Directors, Phil Lord and Chris Miller(previous films include: The Lego Movie, Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs, 21 Jump Street, and it's sequel). And the hiring of veteran Director, Ron Howard. How will this affect the production schedule of the film? Are the Producers and Disney being a little over protective?

It's no secret that we're big Pro Wrestling fans. When we heard that Netflix had given the green light to a new take on GLOW: Gorgeous Ladies of Wrestling based on the original TV series, we were cautiously optimistic. The series stars Alison Brie, Betty Gilpin, and Marc Maron(playing Sam Sylvia, loosely based on Matt Cimber, the original Director of GLOW). This is the second Netflix Original Series from Jenji Kohan(Orange Is The New Black).

A little over a year and half ago a Kickstarter campaign from Gun Media was launched for Friday the 13th The Video Game. What originally began as a game paying homage to the film franchise quickly became a full blown project with the name and license. Originally scheduled for an October 2016 launch, the game was finally released around Memorial Day weekend of 2017. From what we can see online and what we can read as far as game play reviews, the game does a good job of giving you the full Camp Crystal Lake experience.

However, glitches, server issues, and more have plagued the launch of this long awaited title. We here at The Rabblecast have yet to play an actual session. But that doesn't deter us. We still want our chance to survive a night running from the legendary horror icon. Or, play as Jason Vorhees himself and stalk the group of counselors. Have you played Friday the 13th The Video Game? What was your experience?
