The Rabblecast

Congratulations to the WWE! Monday Night RAW has been around for 25 years. For two and a half decades we've been surprised, shocked, and entertained. WWE celebrated 25 years by bringing back some familiar faces(Stone Cold Steve Austin, The APA, Trish Stratus, and more.) to entertain the fans, both old and new. We take a quick look at the anniversary show and give our thoughts.

Then, we get ready for the Royal Rumble! 30 WWE Superstars enter the squared circle to compete in an over-the-top rope elimination match for a chance to start their road to Wrestlemania and compete for the WWE Championship(depending on the show). And this year, we will see the first Women's Royal Rumble match! 30 Women will get their chance to shine in a historic match!

We also say good bye to some influential artists that have recently passed away.

Dolores O'Riordan(aged 46) was an Irish singer, songwriter, and musician. She led the rock band The Cranberries from 1990 until their breakup in 2003; they reunited in 2009.

Eddie Clarke(aged 67), better known as "Fast" Eddie Clarke, was a British guitarist who was a member of heavy metal bands Fastway and Motörhead. Of Motörhead's classic lineup, which consisted of Lemmy, himself and Phil "Philthy Animal" Taylor, he was the last surviving member.

In our first episode for 2018 Hernandez shares some of the recent shows he's been watching late night on Netflix.

First up, Ultimate Beast Master. Twelve competitors from six different countries assemble to tackle a monster of an obstacle course. With for different levels and time and points being a factor, it's a race to see who can defeat the course and become the Ultimate Beast Master.

Also on the watch list, Black Mirror. A British science fiction anthology television series. It examines modern society, particularly with regard to the unanticipated consequences of new technologies. Episodes are standalone, usually set in an alternative present or the near future, often with a dark and satirical tone, though some are more experimental and lighter.

All of this and more!

Ladies and gentlemen, thank you for your patience. Before we can move on with our new shows in 2018, we have one last episode from 2017 to close out the previous year.

The latest entry into the Star Wars saga hit theaters in mid December 2017 and left fans divided. Some fans loved The Last Jedi and all that it had to offer. A new direction for the Star Wars films, the return of Luke Skywalker, and an unpredictable story line.

Other fans were left unsatisfied. Fan favorites were killed off, questions from the previous movie were left unanswered, and we got a very passive Luke Skywalker. Some fans have even taken to signing petitions to have The Last Jedi stricken from the movie canon.

Regardless of how the film was perceived, the Star Wars movie train continues to chug along. Almost a month after it release it has pulled in over $1.2 billion worldwide.

As we talk about the film, we point out things that we liked, things that caught us off guard, and what we hope we will see in future installments.

At the time that we recorded this episode, there were talks of Disney and Fox Studios negotiating a buyout. Which led to a bunch of speculation as to what they could mean for the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Marvel would regain the film rights to the X-Men and Fantastic Four properties as well as a bunch of other intellectual properties owned by Fox(Simpsons, Futurama, X-Files, etc.)

The debate that popped up in a lot of different places was the fate of R rated movies(Logan and Deadpool), and if Disney would allow them to continue under their banner. We get into this and much more as we discuss the topic on this episode.

We also have a new entry into the "Horrible Events in History" file as Doug tells about the Halifax Explosion from 1917.

Marvel's The Punisher is back with a new series on Netflix. Jon Bernthal brings us the latest iteration of the popular anti-hero. Netflix and Marvel have had a successful relationship thus far when it comes to the various "street level" characters(let's skip over Iron Fist for now). Can they continue the trend?

We delve into the series itself, some of the history of the comic book character, and the previous films. Welcome back, Frank.

On this episode, we get back into the world of Professional Wrestling as Hernandez and Doug share a few different stories about their personal experiences. Going to a few different shows, working with certain talent, even getting turned down by some talent for interviews. We don't always get a chance to talk about wrestling, but when we do we can go on for hours.

And then, we journey back to Pennsylvania for another entry into our "Horrible Events in History" file. Doug presents to us, The Lattimer massacre from 1897.

On this episode, the guys share some of their personal stories involving surgeries, medical procedures, and blood donations. Ever have your gall bladder removed? How about laser eye surgery? And let's not forget about the vasectomy.
