The Rabblecast

There's a new game in town. All Elite Wrestling, a new Professional Wrestling promotion created by Cody Rhodes, Matt and Nick Jackson(The Young Bucks). Along with the father and son duo of Shahid and Tony Khan(The Khans are billionaires and part of the ownership group of the Jacksonville Jaguars and Fulham F.C.).

Can AEW compete in a world with the WWE, Ring of Honor, Impact Wrestling, and many others? Their first unofficial outing in the form of 2018's ALL IN PPV is notable for being the first non-WWE or World Championship Wrestling promoted professional wrestling event in the United States to sell 10,000 tickets since 1993.

But the question remains. Do we need another wrestling company?

We're back! To be more specific, we've been back in studio for the past few weeks, this episode and the next few are a little delayed but we're getting them out there.

On our return show we talk about New Year Resolutions. Are you one of those people that feel the need to "start anew" each year? We share our thoughts on the "New Year, New Me" mentality.

Speaking of new, we talk about a few new shows that have come out. In particular, Dwayne Johnson's Titan Games on NBC. It's no secret that we love competitive shows with obstacles and crazy challenges. The Titan Games echoes the old American Gladiator shows from years ago.

Also, we do a quick round up of people that passed away recently. We do our best to pay our respects to people who have left a body of work.

And finally, we do a quick look at the various movies that are coming out in 2019!

And here we have it, the final episode of 2018! We realize this is coming out much later than anticipated but we didn't want to skip this fun episode. (This episode was recorded before our holiday break.)

As mentioned in the show intro, this is not a "year end" show. We don't do a 2018 wrap up. We get together and talk about an array of different topics: Gun laws in NJ, family relationships, the tourist scene in Atlantic City and Asbury Park, and more.

Just as this show is posted we are already hard at work on new episodes for 2019! We appreciated the emails asking for this episode. As always we hope you enjoy the show.

Happy new year!! We hope everyone is enjoying a fresh start in 2019 but before we can fully enter the new year, we have a couple of shows to close out our 2018 run.

On this episode, we have a nice conversational piece as we get into the current culture wars, diet soda, stories about Grandparents, the passing of George H.W. Bush, and the interpretation of art in films and music.

It's a crazy ride, but we do our best to navigate you through the madness.

"Content is king", is a phrase that is often repeated on the podcast. Books, Movies, Comics, TV Shows, Podcasts, etc. If you want some entertainment, you can easily download or stream just about anything to keep you busy.

Netflix, Hulu, Amazon Prime, are just a few of the leaders when it comes to streaming services. Each one offering up different exclusives to earn more subscribers and bring you more content.

But when is too much of a good thing bad? Are there too many shows to watch? How many hours can you sit and binge something? All this and more on this episode.

Stan Lee(aged 95), born Stanley Martin Lieber was an American comic book writer, editor, and publisher who was active from the 1940s to the 2010s. He rose through the ranks of a family-run business to become Marvel Comics' primary creative leader for two decades, leading its expansion from a small division of a publishing house to a multimedia corporation that dominated the comics industry.

In collaboration with others at Marvel—particularly co-writer/artists Jack Kirby and Steve Ditko—he co-created numerous popular fictional characters, including superheroes Spider-Man, the X-Men, Iron Man, Thor, the Hulk, the Fantastic Four, Black Panther, Daredevil, Doctor Strange, Scarlet Witch and Ant-Man. In doing so, he pioneered a more naturalistic approach to writing superhero comics in the 1960s, and in the 1970s he challenged the restrictions of the Comics Code Authority, indirectly leading to changes in its policies. In the 1980s he pursued development of Marvel properties in other media, with mixed results. Following his retirement from Marvel in the 1990s, he remained a public figurehead for the company, and frequently made cameo appearances in films based on Marvel characters, on which he received an honorary "executive producer" credit.

This is our take on Stan "The Man" Lee as we bid a fond farewell to someone who gave the world so much through his work and collaborations.

Halloween has come and gone. But that doesn't mean we can't have a little more fun talking about scary movies and the horror genre. But first, let us remember someone who worked in horror films that recently passed away.

James Karen(aged 94), was an American character actor of Broadway, film and television. Karen was best known for his roles in Poltergeist, The Return of the Living Dead, Invaders from Mars, and in The Pursuit of Happyness.

He appeared in commercials for Pathmark which earned his nickname "Mr. Pathmark". He was nominated for a Saturn Award for his 1985 role in The Return of the Living Dead.

We also talk about the recent release of Halloween(2018 film), starring Jamie Lee Curtis, and its success at the box office. Beware, there are SPOILERS ahead as we talk about the history of the film franchise and the ending of the current film.

We also talk about other horror icons, franchises, and current film and TV projects.

Recently, it was announced that WWE Superstar, Roman Reigns(real name, Leati Joseph Anoaʻi) has been diagnosed with leukemia. Previous to this announcement, the cancer had been in remission for about eleven years. Reigns appeared on an episode of Monday Night RAW to relinquish his WWE Universal Title.

We hope that Roman Reigns can overcome his illness and return to in-ring action soon.

We talk about WWE's upcoming shows, Evolution and Crown Jewel. Evolution will be the first ever all women WWE PPV(by the time this episode posted, this show will have already taken place). And Crown Jewel, a PPV that has already been mired with bad press due to the current political state of relations between Saudi Arabi and the USA.

We also bid farewell to another veteran of the wrestling world. Richard Van Slater(aged 67), better known by his ring name "Dirty" Dick Slater, was an American professional wrestler who wrestled in the 1970s, 1980s, and mid-1990s for various promotions including Mid-Atlantic Championship Wrestling and World Championship Wrestling (WCW).

And last but certainly not least, we talk about the recent news of a new Friday the 13th film being made by a studio with ties to, Lebron James? And Doug gives us the rundown on the new Halloween movie currently out in theaters and breaking box office records of horror films in the month of October.

In a change of pace we decided to try our hand at recording a commentary track for one of our favorite movies. The subject of this commentary recently hit its 20th anniversary mark and could be considered the starting point for modern Marvel movies.

Blade(1998), starring Wesley Snipes, Stephen Dorff, Kris Kristofferson, and N'Bushe Wright.

A half-vampire, half-mortal man becomes a protector of the mortal race, while slaying evil vampires.

We hope you enjoy the commentary.

Have you ever had a movie that you held off on watching? Maybe you missed it in the theaters? You thought, I'll wait for it to come out on DVD. Doug recently watched the Tim Burton classic, Ed Wood. While Hernandez was baffled by Arnold Schwarzenegger's Sci-Fi/Action adventure, The 6th Day

From there the discussion turns to movies, again.

We also say goodbye to a great character actor who appeared in numerous film and TV projects.

Scott Wilson(aged 76), was an American actor. He had more than 50 film credits, including In the Heat of the Night, In Cold Blood, The Great Gatsby, Dead Man Walking, Pearl Harbor, and Junebug. He played veterinarian Hershel Greene on the AMC television series The Walking Dead from 2011 to 2014.

And we're not done yet. We also talk about the recent news of former Guardians of the Galaxy Director, James Gunn making the move over to DC and Warner Bros. Pictures to write and possibly Direct the upcoming Suicide Squad sequel.

And then, we talk about the recent UFC battle between, Conner McGregor and Khabib Nurmagomedov. We talk about the highlights of the bout and the chaos that occurred after one of the most anticipated MMA fights in recent history.
