The Rabblecast (comedy)

Captain Marvel, the twenty-first film in the b, gives us a look at the titular Superhero before the release of Avengers: Endgame and gives us an idea of what the character is capable of before the final showdown with Thanos. The film stars, Brie Larson as Carol Danvers, and Samuel L. Jackson as a young Nick Fury.

The film is set in 90's which lends itself to a conversation of nostalgia. From the Blockbuster Video store, 90's band posters on the wall(and the music used for the soundtrack), classic arcade games, and other call outs. We delve in deep and talk about what we enjoyed and how this fits in the MCU.

Fair warning, there are SPOILERS ahead. The movie came out in early March(this episode was recorded 3/26/19) and it's been about a month since it's release. You have been warned.

All of this and much more!

Laws... laws are put in place to help protect the rights of the members of a society and to ensure that they do not have to protect those rights through their own actions. But laws are human invention. We take a look at some ridiculous and outdated laws that still exist in New Jersey. For example, did you know that profanity is prohibited in Raritan, NJ?

From there we transition over to E-Sports. Do you remember playing Street Fighter, Mortal Kombat, Tekken? E-Sports has come a long way from friends fighting for bragging right's in deep, dark basement.

And, we also talk about the return of James Gunn to the MCU!(We realize this is older news, but this episode was originally recorded 3/19/2019.) This is great news considering how Gunn was released by parent company, Disney due to old tweets dating back almost 10 years.

James Gunn now has two big projects on his plate. He will be returning to his duties on Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3. In the meantime, he's been contracted to write/direct a new Suicide Squad film for Warner Bros. and DC.

We talk about the recent passing of a few individuals that have left their mark on their respective fields of entertainment.

Luke Perry(aged 52), was an American actor. He became a teen idol for playing Dylan McKay on the TV series Beverly Hills, 90210 from 1990 to 1995, and again from 1998 to 2000. He also starred as Fred Andrews on the CW series Riverdale, and had guest roles on notable shows such as Criminal Minds, Law & Order: Special Victims Unit, The Simpsons, and Will & Grace.

Christopher Pallies(aged 63), was an American professional wrestler, better known by his ring name, King Kong Bundy. He is best known for his appearances in the World Wrestling Federation (WWF) in the mid-1980s and mid-1990s. He wrestled in the main event of WrestleMania 2 in 1986, facing Hulk Hogan in a steel cage match for the WWF World Heavyweight Championship.

Keith Flint(aged 49), was an English vocalist, dancer and motorcycle racer. He was a founding member of the electronic dance act The Prodigy. Starting out as a dancer, he became the front man of the group and performed on the group's two UK number one singles, "Firestarter" and "Breathe" both released in 1996.

We start off by talking about Guillermo Del Toro and his body of work as far as writing, producing, and directing. Blade 2, Pan's Labyrinth, Pacific Rim, The Devi's Backbone... just to name a few.

From there we talk about the Hollywood studio system and what it sometimes takes to make a movie or a movie franchise. The Writer's Room, finding a good Director, assembling a good cast, etc. The list could go on and on.

A few twists and turns, awards ceremonies, a quick political rant, and a non-commerical for a shaving company round out this episode.

1994 saw the release of The Crow, starring Brandon Lee. The movie itself is a cult classic. Action, drama, romance, and revenge over the loss of love set to a soundtrack of rock and roll, metal, and electronic music.

On this episode we start with a discussion of this soundtrack and how it influenced us. We also reference an article that gave us some more insight into an album and movie that is 25 years old this year. Original songs, covers of older songs, songs being swapped out... we take a look at different aspects of how it all came together.

We also talk about the music industry and how it used to operate. Music rights, contracts, and how some artists can end up penniless after years of performing and touring.

And last but certainly not least, we talk about the recent cancellation announcements from Netflix regarding their string of Marvel shows on the streaming service. The cancellation announcement was followed by an open letter from Jeph Loeb(the current Executive Vice President of Marvel Television) teasing the possible continuation of the shows on another platform.

All of this and much more!

If you are a long time listener of the show, this episode might be just for you. We return to the world of Professional Wrestling as we talk about a number of different topics.

First, we learn what #TerryTuesday is and realize we have been missing out on catching up with Terry Funk and all his escapades. We are big time fans of the "Funkster" and get a kick out of telling his tales to anyone that will listen.

Continuing the wrestling talk, Hernandez reveals that he's been invited to a reunion show! The old locker room comes calling and they want the "Indian Warrior/Big Chief" to be part of the festivities. Did someone mention a Battle Royal?

From there we go down memory lane with a few different stories about being on the road and hanging out in the locker room. Stiff shots, getting busted open, and locker room diplomacy. All of this and more!

It's always a fun time when we get to catch up with old friends! Jimmy, is back in studio with us while he is in town for a visit. We get to find out just what the hell happened to our favorite conversation derailer. He fills us in on some of his adventures from overseas and what it's been like for him to settle into a different country while taking care of some family business.

Angry movie reviews, fast food stories, and Jimmy is a teacher? All of this and more in this episode!

There's a new game in town. All Elite Wrestling, a new Professional Wrestling promotion created by Cody Rhodes, Matt and Nick Jackson(The Young Bucks). Along with the father and son duo of Shahid and Tony Khan(The Khans are billionaires and part of the ownership group of the Jacksonville Jaguars and Fulham F.C.).

Can AEW compete in a world with the WWE, Ring of Honor, Impact Wrestling, and many others? Their first unofficial outing in the form of 2018's ALL IN PPV is notable for being the first non-WWE or World Championship Wrestling promoted professional wrestling event in the United States to sell 10,000 tickets since 1993.

But the question remains. Do we need another wrestling company?

We're back! To be more specific, we've been back in studio for the past few weeks, this episode and the next few are a little delayed but we're getting them out there.

On our return show we talk about New Year Resolutions. Are you one of those people that feel the need to "start anew" each year? We share our thoughts on the "New Year, New Me" mentality.

Speaking of new, we talk about a few new shows that have come out. In particular, Dwayne Johnson's Titan Games on NBC. It's no secret that we love competitive shows with obstacles and crazy challenges. The Titan Games echoes the old American Gladiator shows from years ago.

Also, we do a quick round up of people that passed away recently. We do our best to pay our respects to people who have left a body of work.

And finally, we do a quick look at the various movies that are coming out in 2019!

And here we have it, the final episode of 2018! We realize this is coming out much later than anticipated but we didn't want to skip this fun episode. (This episode was recorded before our holiday break.)

As mentioned in the show intro, this is not a "year end" show. We don't do a 2018 wrap up. We get together and talk about an array of different topics: Gun laws in NJ, family relationships, the tourist scene in Atlantic City and Asbury Park, and more.

Just as this show is posted we are already hard at work on new episodes for 2019! We appreciated the emails asking for this episode. As always we hope you enjoy the show.
