The Rabblecast (comedy)

Barbie, Oppenheimer... did you catch them opening weekend? Well, we did not. But that won't stop us from going over their performance at the box office and some of the stories surrounding these films. Doug is set to watch Oppenheimer in the near future. Will Hernandez go to Barbie?

Also on this episode, we take quick looks at the upcoming film The Last Voyage of the Demeter (directed by André Øvredal and starring Corey Hawkins, Aisling Franciosi, Liam Cunningham, and David Dastmalchian.), Twisted Metal on Peacock streaming, and Marvel's Secret Invasion on Disney+ (SPOILERS for Secret Invasion).

We take a look at a relatively older story in, BatmanGate. The story revolves around the legal battle between former DC artist and writer, Chris Wozniak and movie Producer, Michael Uslan. Mr. Wozniak claims that an unused Batman story idea that he had submitted to Mr. Uslan was the basis of the 2022 film, The Batman (directed by Matt Reeves and starring Robert Pattinson, Zoë Kravitz, and Paul Dano). We go over some of the details involved in this on going story.

We also take a trip down memory lane as we recall the 1997 outing of, Spawn (starring, Michael Jai White, John Leguizamo, and Martin Sheen). Honorable mention is made to the HBO animated Spawn series that ran for three seasons. And let's not forget the comics label, Image comics, that brought us the character of Spawn to begin with.

Looking forward, we talk about the upcoming Deadpool 3 movie again. New story details have leaked and everyone is getting excited about it. Let's just hope the current WGA and SAG strikes can be settle soon so that production can resume.

All of this and so much more!

On previous episodes, we have talked about the ongoing Writers Guild of America (WGA) Strike. Many outlets covering the strike made an arguement that, if the Screen Actors Guild (SAG) went on strike it would all be settled rather quickly. But news has come out that some executives in the Studio system have been talking about breaking the WGA. Bankruptcy, losing their homes, and generally making the remaining months of 2023 miserable until the Studio gets what they want.

That all remains to be seen as the SAG joins the WGA on the picket line and Hollywood essentially shuts down. How long will this go? Can this be resolved? What are your thoughts?

We also talk about some upcoming films, Oppenheimer (directed by Christopher Nolan) and Barbie (directed by Greta Gerwig ). We also mention other films that are a little further down the release schedule, Deadpool 3 (directed by Shawn Levy) and Late Night with the Devil (directed by Cameron and Colin Cairnes) .

While the Writers Guild of America (WGA) Strike is still ongoing, for over two months now. Attention is now turning toward the Screen Actors Guild (SAG) as they have just extended their deadline from June 30th to July 12 before any decision is made on whether or not they join the WGA on the picket line. We will keep updating as this story as news becomes available.

In recent releases, we talk about, Muscles & Mayhem: An Unauthorized Story of American Gladiators on Netflix. The documentary takes a look at the 90's show and gives us a behind the scenes peak on how the Gladiators were recruited, treated, and ultimately used.

We also take a look at the Summer Movie season as it winds down. Doug is looking forward to, Oppenheimer (directed by Christopher Nolan, based on the 2005 book American Prometheus by Kai Bird and Martin J. Sherwin). While Erik is waiting for, Mission: Impossible – Dead Reckoning Part One (directed by Christopher McQuarrie, starring Tom Cruise). And we take a look at the box office performance of, Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny (directed by James Mangold, starring Harrison Ford).

On this episode, we attempt a little workshopping on a wrestling gimmick. The Jersey Curtain Jerker! No nonsense, no patience, he can not be bothered to even remember you town's name! We do our best to play with an old favorite when it comes to wrestling heels.

We also dive into some political talk. This is not a politics type show, but we do share our thoughts on just how the world of politics shapes and manipulates our day to day lives. It may not be everyone's cup of tea but it's a good idea to stay in the know so that you're not left behind in many cases.

Finally, we have updates on a bunch of different topics. The Titan submersible, social media platforms and how their algorithm feed on you negative engagement, and DCU casting news from Warner Bros. Discovery regarding new actors for, Superman and Lois Lane!

By now, the tragedy of the Titan submersible has spread far and wide. Five individuals, including one of the founders of OceanGate, Stockton Rush left on a deep sea journey destined to view the wreckage of, The Titanic. When the underwater craft missed its window to resurface, news spread quickly. What started as a rescue effort eventually became a recovery effort as the time limit for the on-board air supply ran out and a small debris field was found not far from the site of The Titantic wreckage. We try to piece together the timeline of events and various safety concerns that arose prior to the fateful trip.

Also on this episode, we go over the recent performance of the much anticipated DCU film, The Flash starring, Ezra Miller, Michael Keaton, and Sasha Calle! The latest outing from Warner Bros. Discovery continues an unsettling trend of poor opening weekends. What happened prior to the film's release and what could have contributed to its subpar box office numbers?

Good work is hard to find and the guys chime in with their ideas as they reminisce about some past events. This leads to subjects such as the ongoing Writer's Guild of America (WGA) strike, the potential of a Screen Actor's Guild (SAG) strike, Netflix (how they pay their creators), and one of our personal favorites... the world of Professional Wrestling.
